For many people, the transition from summer to fall means one thing: allergy season. Allergy season can be tough to bear as it can cause headaches, a stuffy head and nose and or you to just not feel your best. Luckily, there are a lot of different ways that you can combat your allergies, like taking medications or staying indoors as much as you can. However, for golfers, staying indoors is not always an option. Fear not! If you suffer from allergies but still want to keep your practice and game play up, here are a few different solutions that you can consider for yourself on the course:
- Check the forecast. First and foremost, check the forecast before you hit the course to get a feel for what the weather will be. To avoid your allergies acting up, try to golf on cloudier, windless days, versus on sunny days when the wind is blowing the pollen around.
- Wear sunglasses. If you do choose to golf on a sunnier day, make sure that you are keeping your sunglasses on to avoid having any pollen get into your eyes. If you are experienced with allergies, you know firsthand how horrible itchy eyes can feel!
- Change your clothes after a round of golf. After you are done playing, change your clothes immediately to avoid having any pollen on you for the rest of the day or night. Pollen can easily stick to your clothing, so it is best to have it off of you as soon as you are able.
- Shower immediately when you get home. Once you are home, take a shower immediately so any excess pollen on your skin or hair will be removed. You will feel much cleaner once you are completely pollen free!
- Know what you are allergic to. Lastly, it is smart to visit an allergist to know exactly what you are allergic to, that way you know what you should be avoiding.
