How to Buy Drivers If You’re a Beginner

Buying golf equipment can be very overwhelming and confusing for someone who may just be starting out. There are a lot of different pieces of equipment and accessories that are necessary to your success on the course. What many people recognize as one of the most important clubs is the driver, which is the largest of all the clubs and is very important to use first within the game. If you are not sure how to pick out the best driver for you, we are here to help! Here are some tips on how to choose a driver, and some of our favorite drivers that we recommend for beginners:

Know what head shape you are looking for. There are several different types of head shapes on drivers, some being round, some square and some extended. For beginners, a round head shape is convenient since it is less bulky, and it will not get caught on the grass.

Know what head size you are looking for. The head size of the driver determines the amount of power of the shot and how much impact it will offer you. Usually, the more skilled you are, the smaller the head size will be.

Know what loft is best for you. The loft determines the angle of the face of the head, and heavily impacts distance as well as speed. You should ultimately choose a loft based on your personal assessed speed.

Know what material you prefer. Drivers are available in a variety of different materials, including aluminum, titanium, stainless steel and more! Stainless steel is a common, less expensive option for players just starting out. While titanium is a little pricier, it offers outstanding performance and is great to invest in.

Some of our favorite drivers include Callaway’s XR 16 and Great Big Bertha, as well as Cobra Men’s Fly Z Driver. These drivers are aerodynamic, offer great speed and increase distance! Not to mention, they are great for beginners.
