The holiday season is in full swing, and even though your golf game may have come to a standstill, it is still vital that you keep up with your health both mentally and physically to ensure you are healthy and ready to get back on the course come the spring. Even though the weather is colder, and the holidays include lots of sweets and treats, there are many ways that you can work to stay on track to becoming the best player that you can be. Here are a few different tactics to keeping up your health during the holiday season:
Avoid over-eating. During the holidays, it can be extremely easy to over eat, during family get-togethers, holiday parties at your job and many other events and activities that often come up to celebrate the season. Try to remember to eat slower so that your brain can recognize when you are full. By eating quicker, you are not allowing your body to process the foods properly, and you will over-eat. Feel free to indulge but remember that it is all about balance!
Stay active. Just because you are not able to get out on the course does not mean that you cannot stay active. Try to hit the gym a few times a week, and not only do cardio activities, but weight training as well. Weight training, especially building your core and glutes, will allow you to gain more balance and ultimately improve your swing on the course.
Stay hydrated. Staying hydrated does not only improve your golf game, but your personal every day health, as well. Remember to drink lots of water, especially if you are adding in some alcoholic beverages during those holiday parties!
Manage your stress. The holidays can become overwhelming and stressful, and it is important to take control of your mental health. Your mental health on the course is just as important, if not more important, than your physical health! Your ability to control how relaxed and focused you are will drastically improve your mental game.
By following these tips, you will not only experience healthier winter months, but you will also thank yourself when the time comes to get back on the course and your body and mind are prepared and ready!
