The driving range is the perfect place to practice your golf swing before you head to the course for your tee time. It’s a great way to warm-up too! Here are some tips to keep in mind when at the range.
- Stretch
The first thing you should do is stretch your muscles.
A standard stretch to the floor to touch your toes will help loosen up your hamstrings and lower back. You can also grab a wedge and slowly swing it back and forth 20 or 30 times to loosen up your arms and back muscles. I find that if I don’t stretch, it messes up my swing and ultimately I become frustrated. You need flexibility and mobility to properly hit the ball, so remember to do this first above all else!
- Work your way up to your driver
Don’t assume that you can immediately start using your driver. It’s better to start with shorter wedges such as a 9 iron Then work up from your 9 iron through your lowest iron.
- The driver
Once you’re completely warmed up, take out your driver. Make sure to closely analyze the ball and take note if you have a slice or draw. If you do, try to adjust your stance and grip accordingly. For most weekend golfers, the driver is the hardest club to get the hang of. Spend a decent amount of time with your driver.
- Play a game
Towards the end of your range session, play a game with yourself. If there are any nets out in the field, try to chip your ball into it. This will help you see how accurate your shots are and it’s also just a lot of fun to set goals for yourself. You can also imagine your on the golf course and aim for a certain distance.
